Giving Tuesday is tomorrow, and the next 36 hours are crucial to homeless and at-risk pets in Chicagoland. That's why PAWS Chicago is kicking off our Matching Gift Challenge now!

Make your Giving Tuesday gift today and animal advocate Nancy Aversa and our friends at the Robert and Mayari Pritzker Family Foundation will match your donation dollar for dollar, up to $20,000.

Your donation will support the Chicago Animal Crisis Fund, which helps local animals left behind during the post-pandemic surge in pet abandonment that is overwhelming shelters and rescue organizations all over the country. Chicago Animal Care and Control (CACC), the city pound, is already full, and on average 40 more abandoned or stray cats and dogs enter every day. Despite all the progress we've made, euthanasia at CACC has reached its highest point since 2016.

The Chicago Animal Crisis Fund empowers PAWS to rescue more pets from dire situations — whether they’ve been abandoned in alleys, hit by cars, or found suffering in the freezing cold. The fund supports advanced medical care and life-saving surgeries, giving these vulnerable animals a second chance at life.

Every day, we come face-to-face with pet homelessness. For a stray kitten like Ziggy, that meant looking into her pleading eyes as we gently wrapped her mangled paw, its tissue cold and dying. Despite the pain she must have felt, Ziggy leaned all her weight into every warm hand we offered.

When the city pound is overwhelmed, even healthy pets face euthanasia. A kitten like Ziggy, with that broken and infected paw, wouldn't have a chance without the generosity of our PAWS community.

After surgery, Ziggy is now healing in a cozy foster home—her future is guaranteed. But others aren’t so lucky.
