Harper’s tiny body was limp with sickness when she arrived at the PAWS Chicago Medical Center. Diagnosed with parvovirus, a deadly and contagious illness, she would have certainly been euthanized at Chicago Animal Care and Control (CACC), the city pound—but not here. Dogs who are symptomatic for parvo can’t be quarantined at CACC and, due to the high risk of fatal outbreak, need to be transferred or euthanized. We built one of the most advanced homeless pet hospitals in the country for cases just like hers.
