Wishing you and your Ohana a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!
2024 HOUSE MEMBERS & STAFF CHRISTMAS HOLIDAY LUNCHEON
Speaker of the House Nadine Nakamura hosted a Christmas luncheon for all House members and staff. Representative Matsumoto and Representative Shimizu had the privilege of serving food alongside their colleagues and expressing gratitude to the staff for their continued support. The event included a food bank collection, successfully raising $385 in donations, an ugly sweater contest, a white elephant gift exchange, and more. It was a wonderful way to celebrate the season, fostering community and unity at the Hawaii State Capitol.
WOMEN'S LEGISLATIVE CAUCUS RETREAT
The Women's Legislative Caucus (WLC) visited the Capitol Modern Museum, where we had the privilege of contributing to the “Make Your Mark” community mural as part of the State Capitol Pools project. Guided by the talented artist Solomon Enos, the caucus members added paint dots to the mural, symbolizing collective effort and creativity. This artwork will eventually transform into a new, waterless pool installation at the State Capitol, an inspiring tribute to innovation and collaboration.
GOD, FAMILY, COMMUNITY
Year after year Representative Alcos participates in the Ewa Beach Lion's Club parade. His daily morals and beliefs revolve around GOD, FAMILY, and COMMUNITY. In these parades, he celebrates Jesus, gathers his family to participate, and shares his genuine feelings to the Ewa Beach Community. Pictured here is a float that family and friends put together in a matter of 24hours and everyone loved the event from beginning to end.
MILILANI BAND ORCHESTRA CONCERT
Joining the Mililani High School band concert orchestra was a special moment for Representative Matsumoto, as it offered the opportunity to play alongside the students for one of their songs. Practicing with them was a meaningful experience that brought back many memories from her time in the Mililani orchestra under Mr. Hirata’s direction 20 years ago!
CHRISTMAS IN AIEA PARADE AND FAMILY FUN FAIR
Representative Shimizu participated in Aiea’s “Christmas in Aiea” Parade and Family Fun Fair this month. Community groups, craft vendors, and food trucks also participated in this family-friendly event, which brought together residents of all ages to kick off the holiday season with joy and community spirit.
OLALOA RETIREMENT CHRISTMAS PARADE
Spreading Christmas cheer at the Olaloa Retirement Christmas Parade was an incredible experience for Representative Matsumoto! It was a wonderful opportunity to connect with her community and celebrate the holiday season together. She was also honored to judge the wreath contest. With nearly 500 residents, this annual parade is a much-anticipated tradition that brings joy to everyone involved.
COMMUNITY WORSHIP NIGHT AND FOOD TRUCKS
Representative Pierick attended Anchor Church for a worship night, further engaging with the local community. During the event, he had the opportunity to meet a retired Air Force chaplain, who shared his experiences and insights. Additionally, Representative Pierick connected with a future Four-Square police chaplain, a role focused on providing spiritual support to law enforcement officers. Representative Pierick enjoys spending time in the community, being able to come together and worship.
MILILANI QUARTERLY LUNCHEON
Attending Mililani High School’s Quarterly Luncheon was a wonderful experience for Representative Matsumoto, followed by a delicious meal prepared by the talented culinary students. She was inspired by the Mililani Complex student councils and enjoyed connecting with her community to discuss upcoming programs and events.
MOANALUA VALLEY COMMUNITY ASSOCIATION CHRISTMAS PARTY
Representative Shimizu served dinners at the Moanalua Valley Community Association (MVCA) Christmas Party. He also reinstated his position as a Board of Director on the MVCA. The event provided a wonderful opportunity to connect with community members and celebrate the holiday season together.
UH MANOA WOMEN'S WATER POLO
Presenting certificates to the UH Manoa Women’s Water Polo Team for their historic victory in the 2024 season, was a great honor for Representative Matsumoto, who also attended and played water polo. Under Coach Maureen Cole, the team captured both the Big West regular-season and tournament titles, achieved the highest national ranking and NCAA Championship seed in school history, and competed in the Women’s National Collegiate Water Polo Championship in Berkeley. Finishing at No. 3 in national polls and defeating two No. 1-ranked teams, including a historic win against Stanford, this remarkable season will be remembered. Congratulations, Rainbow Wahine!
In response to the devastating fire in Lahaina, Maui in August 2023, members of the Hawaii State House Republican Caucus traveled to the affected community. During their visit, they immersed themselves in the aftermath, gaining insights into the resilience and determination among the locals. By engaging directly with survivors of the Lahaina Wildfire, they asked pressing questions about the adequacy of government response, the effectiveness of communication efforts, and the development of a plan for the future. Now, you can uncover the answers by watching the documentary "After the Fire Lahaina Report".
