Welcome, Lupe! There’s a cuteness submerge-ency on Hippo Trail! This fall, we celebrated the arrival of Lupe, a 24-year-old female river hippo, at the San Diego Zoo. Hippos are a keystone species and essential for sustaining biodiversity in African ecosystems. Unfortunately, they’re also threatened. With your support, we’re working to save, protect, and care for African wildlife across expansive, grassy plains and tropical forests through our Savanna and African Forest Conservation Hubs. On your next visit to the Zoo, say hello to Lupe as she explores below the water’s surface and forages on the shore. |
