2024 Year in Review

I'm eager to start the new year and continue working on the issues most important to you and your family. We have made some progress this year, but we have a long way to go. In 2025, I will remain focused on working to help get government spending under control, bring down the cost of living, support veterans and their families, secure our borders, and protect seniors. As we look back on 2024, here's an overview of what we were able to accomplish:

Constituent Report Card

Image

This year, my office helped more than 1,300 constituents with federal agencies including Social Security, Veterans Affairs, and Medicare. Additionally, this year alone, we responded to more than 52,000 emails, letters, and phone calls. Lastly, I continued adding to my total of 34 in person town halls, and over 40 telephone town halls since taking office.

Government Spending Transparency

Image

In 2024, federal government spending was $6.752 trillion, and revenue was $4.919 trillion. This resulted in a deficit of $1.833 trillion. Spending at this level is not sustainable. Going forward, we must get federal government spending under control.

Bringing Down the Cost of Living

Image

Policies coming out of Washington, D.C. have caused high prices on essentials like gas and groceries. Rent and mortgage prices have increased too. I am working to stop wasteful spending, lower prices, and bring relief to Wisconsin families.

Reducing Inflation

I helped get the Fiscal Responsibility Act (H.R. 3746) signed into law, which implemented reasonable, responsible, and sensible reforms that saved taxpayers $2.1 trillion, capped federal spending, and protected Social Security, Medicare, and veteran programs.

Lowering Energy Costs

To expand energy production here at home, lower gas prices, and provide better-paying jobs, I voted to support the Lower Energy Costs Act (H.R. 1).

Reining in Government Regulations

Moreover, I led the Regulations from the Executive in Need of Scrutiny (REINS) Act (H.R. 277) that would require Congress to approve any new rule from a federal agency that is expected to cost at least $100 million a year or increase costs for consumers and employers.

Supporting Veterans and Their Families

Working on behalf of those who served our country is one of my top priorities. From connecting more veterans with quality health care to ensuring each veteran has access to the benefits they earned, I am focused on delivering results for veterans in our community.

Ensuring Veterans Receive the Care They've Earned

I led efforts to pass Military Construction, Veterans Affairs, and Related Agencies Appropriations Act (H.R. 8580). This legislation fully funds health care and benefits for our veterans, supports our military families and quality of life on base, and strengthens America's defense.

Supporting Military Families

I also am leading the effort to pass the Survivor Benefits Fairness Act (H.R. 1609). This bill will ensure the VA cannot demand families of beneficiaries pay back their loved one's final month of benefits in the event of a surviving spouse's death.

Honoring Our Veterans

To honor the 129 Wisconsin servicemembers who made the ultimate sacrifice, I led the rededication of the Global War on Terror Memorial. Additionally, I am working to pass the Flags to Honor Our Veterans Act (H.R. 8766) to allow veterans' families to fly the flag at municipal and private gravesites year-round.

Securing Our Borders and Keeping Communities Safe

Image

There is a drug and human trafficking crisis that we cannot continue to ignore, and strong border security legislation is the only way to solve it.

Securing Our Borders and Stopping the Flow of Fentanyl

I have been working to pass the Secure the Border Act (H.R. 2) to end catch-and-release, re-institute the Remain in Mexico policy, end exploitation of parole authority, and help prevent illicit fentanyl from coming into our communities.

Supporting Every Victim

In addition, I have been helping lead the Crime Victims Fund Stabilization Act (H.R. 8061). This legislation will help make sure children's advocacy, domestic violence, and other crisis centers have the long-term funding they need to support those in need.

Ending Human Trafficking

To combat and prevent financial criminal activities associated with human trafficking, I have been leading the Exposing the Financing of Human Trafficking Act (H.R. 8185) and the Secure the Border Act (H.R. 2) .

Protecting Seniors

Image

Seniors deserve the benefits they have earned. I am working to strengthen Medicare and Social Security, increase availability to quality, long-term care, and ensure seniors have access to comprehensive, coordinated health care coverage at significantly lower out-of-pocket costs. I will always fight to deliver results for Wisconsin.

Stopping Scams

To help fight scammers and keep seniors informed, I hosted my 5th "Stop Scams" event in Beloit in May. I am also leading a resolution to support scam survivors across the nation (H. Res. 1201).

Protecting Retirement Savings

I spearheaded the Protecting Americans' Savings from Politics Act (H.R. 4767) to make sure pension and retirement funds are protected from political agendas. This legislation passed the House this year.

Lowering Health Care Costs

Health care is simply too expensive for our seniors. I cosponsored the Lower Costs, More Cures Act (H.R. 19) to cap seniors' out-of-pocket costs, increase price transparency, and cut the cost of cancer treatments by as much as half.
