Dear John,
Like you, I am taking this time during the holidays to be with family and friends. For me, it has been a long year of congressional work and campaigning. And I am getting ready for the Trump-MAGA chaos ahead.
We just had a preview of the crazy that is coming during the final week of the congressional session…and it is ugly. But there is a glimmer of hope – House Democrats!
Despite contorting themselves to appease the whims of President-elect Trump and Shadow President Elon Musk, House Republicans once again failed to pass their own bill to fund the federal government. Some Republicans wanted a shutdown. Others, like Trump and 170 Republicans tried to eliminate the debt limit so they could cut taxes for Musk and other billionaires and raid Social Security and Medicare.
In the end, 196 House Democrats stood united to fund the government without Republican poison pills, to extend the Farm Bill, and to provide critical disaster relief to hurricane victims.
Democrats stayed united. Republicans were forced to abandon Trump.
I say Democrats won! We won because we are united!
Next year Republicans will control the White House, the U.S. Senate, and the U.S. House. But Republican dysfunction and a razor thin majority in the House will give us an opportunity to blunt the crazy, the extremism, and the destruction.
The race to win back the U.S. House in 2026 starts now! Make no mistake, I am focused on stopping Trump, but I need your help.
