Today is the fourth anniversary of the deadly U.S. Capitol attack on January 6th, 2021. When Congress was scheduled to formally certify President Biden’s victory in the 2020 presidential election, a violent mob of right-wing extremists emboldened by Donald Trump stormed the U.S. Capitol.

After the Capitol was cleared and the mess cleaned up, members of Congress reconvened to authorize the Electoral College votes. Despite everything that had just happened, 147 Republican members chose party over country and voted against certifying Biden’s election victory. Since then, AIPAC has endorsed 109 of those 147 Republicans who supported overturning the 2020 election.

Bankrolled by Republican billionaires and Trump megadonors, AIPAC is willing to sacrifice our country’s democracy as long as their candidates unconditionally support Israel’s right-wing government and their war crimes.

While AIPAC continued to back GOP insurrectionists in the years since 2021, they also spent nearly $30 million (more than ever before in U.S. history) to unseat progressive Democratic incumbents Cori Bush and Jamaal Bowman last year. And yet, the majority of Democrats keep taking their money and support.

Today, Congress is certifying the presidential election results for Trump once again, in part thanks to big money lobbies like AIPAC’s efforts to influence our elections and Democratic leadership’s prioritization of billionaire and corporate donors over working people.

If we’re going to stop the dangerous spread of right-wing extremism and start winning more elections, we need a bold Democratic Party made up of working-class leaders who will fight to take big money out of politics and defend our democracy.
