Team,

January 6th, 2021. Four years ago, we witnessed a dark day in our nation’s history. The United States Capitol was attacked, not by a foreign enemy, but by supporters of President Trump who were unwilling to accept the results of a free and fair election.

I was there that day, in the House gallery. As a violent mob tore through the halls of the Capitol, I thought of my time in combat, standing shoulder to shoulder with my fellow soldiers to defend the ideals of our great country. I also thought of the oath I took when I was sworn into Congress, to support and defend the Constitution of the United States.

Four years later, Congress will vote to certify the first presidential election since this attack. It’s our constitutional duty to do so.

We can never repeat the events of January 6, 2021. We must always fight for our democracy. We must commit to free and fair elections. And we must ensure a peaceful transfer of power, even when we disagree with those elected. Violence can never, ever be the answer to political differences.

In a matter of weeks, Donald Trump will be inaugurated for his second term as president. Even though he won, nobody is above the law and just like when I managed the impeachment trial, we’ll be ready to hold him accountable again.

I’ve never backed down from a fight to defend our nation before, and I’m not going to start now. Whether on the battlefield or in the halls of Congress, I’ve always fought for what’s right — for accountability, democracy, and freedom — and I’ll continue to do so.

In the 119th Congress, I will keep fighting every day for working families, not the richest Americans and the biggest corporations. And I will always work to protect Coloradans from an extreme agenda that seeks to take away fundamental freedoms, deny climate change, and hurt families.

Thank you,

Jason Crow
