This week, the federal Department of Justice’s Inspector General issued a scathing report confirming what we knew all along: MAGA appointees corrupted and unlawfully abused the Justice Department to target New York in a politically motivated probe into how nursing homes were handled during COVID.
Why? To influence the 2020 election.
It was obvious to anyone paying attention, but what they did was cynically effective. They weaponized people’s real pain for their own political gain, facts and truth be damned. The press was whipped into a frenzy, politicians weaponized the issue for their own gain. And, before you know it, the lie was on its second lap around the globe.
Well, the truth is finally out there. This Inspector General report, which you can read here, found that:
– DOJ was directed to “focus specifically on New Jersey and New York despite having been provided data indicating that the nursing homes with the most significant quality of care issues were in other states.”
– DOJ targeted Democratic governors in their probe, despite the fact that state orders were consistent with federal guidance at the time and that other Republican states had issued similar orders.
