Hi John,
I hope you had a peaceful holiday season and a great start to the new year. Last week, I joined my colleagues on Capitol Hill to mark the beginning of a new Congress. With a new administration around the corner, we don’t know what this year has in store — but I’m ready to work across the aisle to address our shared priorities, such as supporting our maritime industrial base. You can always count on me to work in good faith with members of either party on legislation to support Connecticut families and deliver results for our district. At the same time, I’ll stand firm against extremist attacks on our basic freedoms: you can count on me to always defend a woman’s right to choose and our core democratic values.
While Democrats may not have won the House in November, we did pick up seats — Speaker Johnson will be leading the narrowest majority in nearly 100 years. This presents a real opportunity for House Democrats to have an impact in the next two years, so with that in mind:
what’s most important to you as we begin the 119th Congress?
I believe there’s room in Congress for real bipartisan progress on the urgent issues facing our nation, from the opioid crisis to addressing the out-of-control prices facing families at the grocery store. I sincerely hope that Speaker Johnson and the new administration will choose to unify, rather than divide, and I’m prepared to do what I’ve always done: fight for the hard-working folks of Eastern Connecticut who contribute so much to keeping our nation strong and secure.
Please share your thoughts with us today — I’m looking forward to reading your responses!
Thanks,
Joe
