Dear Herbert,
As a former American government and history teacher, I am humbled and honored to now be a part of history in the making as a member of the House of Representatives.
I spent my first week in Congress not only dodging snow drifts and learning the circuitous routes through the capital complex, but reaffirming our democratic values and Constitutional rights.
After being sworn in, I participated in a peaceful and orderly certification of the Presidential election, even as we uplifted the memory of all law enforcement killed and injured during the same process just four years ago when a group of violent rioters attempted to usurp the will of the people. I attended the solemn funeral of President Jimmy Carter, a man of integrity who dedicated his life to human rights and justice. Finally, I signed my official oath of office and cast my first two votes, opposing legislation I believe to be at odds with our values and American interests.
My team and I are excited to begin providing the citizens of the Second District with the very best constituent service. We are working hard to get both our Washington and Towson offices ready for visitors and look forward to welcoming you soon.
I hope to hear from you often throughout this Congressional session – I do my job best when I know where my constituents stand on the issues that matter most to them.
Go Ravens!
