Friend – We know that many of us are holding our breath for January 20, when the next president takes office, a president who has promised from day one to begin mass deporting immigrants in this country. On the base of the Statue of Liberty is a quote: "Give me your tired, your poor, your huddled masses yearning to breathe free." And now, we hear quite a different narrative from our country's top elected officials. The fundamental constitutional protections of due process and equal protection embodied in our Constitution and Bill of Rights apply to every person, regardless of immigration status. That's why we won't stop defending immigrants – our friends, families, and ourselves. We believe in Lady Liberty's message and will continue to uphold that promise. The ACLU of Wisconsin is committed to ensuring everyone, regardless of their immigration status, knows their rights. Learn more about those rights and how to express them. Additionally, the ACLU has joined forces with Brooklyn Defender Services (Please note: This link will take you to a third-party website, bds.org.) to create and distribute powerful, informative videos based on true stories.
