Dear John,
In this week's newsletter, kicking off the 119th Congress, my bill to reform child welfare, and my meetings throughout the week. If you need help with federal agencies, please reach out to one of my offices listed at the bottom of the newsletter.
Start of the 119th Congress
I am humbled and honored to represent Illinois' 16th Congressional District in the 119th Congress.
I look forward to working alongside President Trump, Speaker Johnson, and all my colleagues to deliver on the promises made to the American people. I look forward to serving the people of central and northwestern Illinois for another two years!

Reforming Child Welfare
Last weekend, my Supporting America's Children and Families Act was signed into law.
This is the first meaningful reform to child welfare since 2008, and it will strengthen our foster care system and keep more families together. Our future generations are the key to our success, and it is our responsibility to protect them.

Honoring our Law Enforcement
We celebrated Law Enforcement Appreciation Day this past Thursday and took a moment to honor the brave men and women who dedicate themselves to protecting our communities.
Today and everyday, I am grateful for their service and sacrifice to keep us safe.
General Joseph Aoun Elected President in Lebanon
Thursday was a great day for the people of Lebanon. After 22 months without a president, the Lebanese Parliament elected General Joseph Aoun.
Under his leadership, the country will move forward as a sovereign and prosperous nation, while emboldening the people of Lebanon to move past the influence of Iran and Hezbollah.
I look forward to working with President Trump, his national security team, and my Congressional colleagues to support a strong US-Lebanon relationship.

Meeting with the AARP
It was great meeting with the Illinois AARP this week! I am thankful for their tireless work advocating on behalf of 1.7 million members on critical issues such as healthcare, financial security, and safe communities.
I look forward to continuing our work together as we head into the new Congress.
Visiting with President Zenger
I enjoyed stopping by Illinois Wesleyan University Friday to meet with their new President, Sheahon Zenger, and discuss the upcoming projects and goals for the university.
I appreciate his leadership and commitment to the faculty and students’ success! Go Titans!
One More Thing: House of Representatives Passed the Laken Riley Act
The murder of Laken Riley was a heartbreaking tragedy that should have never occurred.
The Biden-Harris administration's dangerous open border policies have put Illinois communities and our nation at risk. I was proud to support the Laken Riley Act to require ICE to detain illegal immigrants who commit theft, and I will continue to work with my colleagues and President Trump to secure our border and hold criminals accountable.
It is a privilege to serve the constituents of Illinois' 16th Congressional District. Thank you for subscribing to my newsletter. Please do not hesitate to reach out to one of my offices if we can ever be of assistance.
Sincerely,
Darin LaHood Member of Congress
