This is important. We're all in this together.

Dear Friend,

The 2025 New York State legislative session officially kicked off last week. And we've got a lot to do.

Our work in state government has never been more important. Too many working-class and middle-class New Yorkers are struggling to make ends meet, and many have lost faith that government can help solve their problems.

With a new legislative session starting, I’m focused on delivering for our community and fighting to make New York safer, fairer and more affordable for everyone.

To do that, I'm laying out a list of my top priorities this year in Albany. This year, I'm fighting to:

  • Expand the family safety net by passing my Working Families Tax Credit and exempting school supplies from sales tax.
  • Pursue universal childcare and afterschool to address the crushing costs of raising a family in New York.
  • Create more affordable housing by passing my Faith-Based Affordable Housing Act, investing in NYCHA, and finally tackling the gross inequities of New York City’s property tax system.
  • Expand college access by passing my Fair College Admissions Act to ban legacy admissions preferences at universities, and enacting my New Deal for CUNY.
  • Create safer streets by requiring “speed limiter” devices to be installed on the worst serial speeders’ vehicles, and creating a pedestrian safety rating system for all vehicles registered in New York.
  • Expand transportation options by passing my bill to reduce the total annual vehicle miles traveled in New York by 20% by 2050, in the process investing in more frequent public transit, more accessible streets for walking and biking, new greenway trails and more.
  • Ensure the subway is safe and accessible by getting New Yorkers suffering from homelessness and mental illness the support they need, and by taking advantage of congestion pricing funding to advance long-overdue station elevator projects.
  • Protect kids online from abuse and exploitation on social media and gaming platforms by passing my New York Children’s Online Safety Act
  • Protect survivors of abuse and harassment by passing the Ceasing Repeated and Extremely Egregious Predatory (CREEP) Behavior Act to update our laws in the era of cyberstalking, revenge porn, doxxing and deep fakes.
  • Protect our immigrant neighbors by passing my New York for All legislation, which would protect families from being separated while ensuring true public safety for all.

You can learn more about each of these priorities by reading my new Medium post, which dives into the details on each topic.

Do you have other ideas for issues my team and I should be working on this year? I want to hear from you. Complete my district survey to let me know your thoughts, questions, and concerns.

None of this work is possible without your partnership and support. Thank you for joining me in this fight to create the New York we all want and deserve.

- Andrew
