Today, Brooke joined two General Assembly leaders onstage with the Baltimore Banner to discuss the fiscal state of affairs in Maryland. She highlighted previous findings from her 2024 State of the Economy report regarding our years of stagnant growth, and also noted the need to understand our revenues and how we grow over the long term.
The Governor will release his proposed FY26 budget tomorrow. As Comptroller, Brooke chairs the Board of Revenue Estimates, which released its latest estimate in December. That estimate is what the Governor and General Assembly use when crafting a balanced budget.
Uncertainty abounds as we face a new federal administration that has threatened big cuts to our federal workforce – an important sector of Maryland’s economy. It will be a challenging legislative session. As Comptroller, Brooke will be there to ensure that our elected leaders have accurate data and numbers regarding any revenue bills or cuts, and will provide one final estimate through the Board of Revenue Estimates on FY26 in March to ensure the final budget that passes is balanced.
