Team, I have exciting news — I was assigned to sit on the Appropriations Committee in this new Congress. This is a huge honor and responsibility, and I am very happy to receive this appointment.
What do you want to know about this assignment? Do you want to see updates about the work I’ll be doing on the committee? Let me know here.
In Congress, the Appropriations Committee decides how much funding every federal government agency and program receives. Alongside the Senate Appropriations Committee, we’re ultimately responsible for the legislation that allocates our annual budget.
You can see why this is an important job, especially with the GOP trifecta heading to Washington claiming they want to slash critical federal programs. I’m ready for it.
How we budget reveals who we are – it defines us and reveals our priorities. In my days in the Pennsylvania State House, I sat on the Pennsylvania Appropriations Committee. I am delighted to continue the work of fighting for the programs that make our country and families stronger.
In PA, I was proud to help pass ACT 89 which was the biggest transportation infrastructure funding increase in decades. It enabled road projects, bridge repairs, and public transit. It was a game-changer, and navigating that process taught me so much – both about how to operate, and what is possible when you’re on the committee that holds the power of the purse.
I don’t take that power lightly. I will bring this same passion, strength, and fight to this Congress and my new committee. And fun fact: I am only the second congressperson from PA to be assigned to Appropriations.
Subcommittee assignments are coming this week, so I’ll have more to share soon about exactly where my focus and responsibilities will be. In the meantime, let me know what you want to hear about as I dive into Appropriations.
I wouldn’t be here without you, so thank you for trusting me,
Madeleine
