Even in Abigail’s very last days in Congress, she was working tirelessly to get her Social Security Fairness Act across the finish line and onto President Biden’s desk.

Abigail has led the Social Security Fairness Act since she first arrived on Capitol Hill, and it was in her final weeks in Congress that she and her Republican co-lead ushered the bill through the House of Representatives and the Senate and then to the President’s desk!

The Social Security Fairness Act repeals the Windfall Elimination Provision (WEP) and the Government Pension Offset (GPO). These two provisions have effectively stolen benefits from retired public servants – teachers, police officers, letter carriers, firefighters, and local, state, and federal employees of all stripes – for more than forty years.

Now that the Social Security Fairness Act is LAW, nearly 2.5 million Americans – including more than 50,000 Virginians will finally receive their fully earned Social Security benefits.

Abigail’s career in Congress was characterized by getting things done and bringing people together on both sides of the aisle, which is exactly what she did to earn strong bipartisan support on her landmark bill.
