For decades, our state’s transportation system hasn’t received the support it needs. That’s a problem.

Our residents depend on having safe and reliable transportation. So does our economy. That’s why our administration has been determined to do things differently — we are not kicking the can down the road any longer.

That is why yesterday, I announced our plan to invest $8 billion over the next 10 years to improve roads, bridges, and public transportation in every corner of our state - all without raising taxes.

So what does that mean for you?

* You’ll see the results in big bridges being fully open again, like the I-391 viaduct in Chicopee.
* You’ll see it in smaller bridges replaced, like Commercial Street over Herring Run Brook in Weymouth.
* You’ll see it in roads being fixed and traffic hotspots being eliminated.

And you’ll see it in the MBTA, where we are finally stabilizing the T’s finances so it can be taken to the next level. That will mean more frequent trains and buses; more reliable service; major station upgrades; and accessible platforms across the Commuter Rail from Beverly Depot to West Medford to Franklin.

Our transportation system has long been one of the biggest challenges facing our state. By coming together and taking this head-on, we can turn it into one of our greatest strengths.

Massachusetts has never turned away from a big challenge. It’s time to get transportation back on track.

Let’s do this.
