John — we’re facing what feels like a dark moment in our nation’s history.

But we know that leading with our values is the best path forward. Becca’s life experiences have prepared her to take on tough conversations. And we wanted to share one of those experiences with you today:

When Becca and her wife first moved to Brattleboro, Vermont, they were taken aback when they first saw their new neighbor’s yard.

Right out on their front lawn was an anti-LGBTQ+ sign.

Becca thought to herself, “How are we going to make this work?” At that moment, it felt like there was much more than just a fence dividing them.

But a friendly wave turned into a conversation, which turned into a borrowed lawn mower — and things changed. The sign came down, and with it, so did a barrier between neighbors.

During such a polarizing era in our politics, we’re sure a lot of you have faced similar conversations with your family, friends, and neighbors.

We hope this serves as a reminder that when we stop turning away from each other, real connections and understanding can happen.

Becca believes that the way forward lies in conversations like these. She’ll never back away from fighting for what’s right — she’s done it in her neighborhood, and she’ll continue to do so as Vermont’s representative in Congress.
