There's no “off-season” in our line of work. There is no time off in defending our freedoms.

Just a few weeks into the new year, we’ve already faced — and passed — our first big test of the new Trump era. Special elections in Virginia decided control of the state senate and the house of delegates. We endorsed Democracy Defenders, and they helped Democrats hold onto both chambers, preventing a Republican trifecta!

With more elections right around the corner, we can’t afford to take our foot off the gas. Donate now to power the fight for fair maps and fair elections.

This is a moment where we can make major inroads in the fight for fair maps — but only if we keep up our momentum. Here’s a look at what we have coming up:

🗓️ JANUARY 🗓️
  • Minnesota will hold special elections for a seat in the state senate and a seat in the state house. Senate control is currently tied, and Republicans have a one-seat advantage in the House — so these races will decide which party has a Senate majority and whether the GOP has to share power in the House.

🗓️ FEBRUARY 🗓️
  • Wisconsin will hold an election for a 10-year term on the state supreme court. While justices are elected as nonpartisan, the current breakdown of the court has four liberals and three conservatives. If conservatives are able to win this election, they will flip control of the court.

🗓️ NOVEMBER 🗓️
  • Virginia will hold statewide elections for governor, lieutenant governor, and house of delegates. If conservatives are able to win this election, they will flip control of the court.

  • Pennsylvania will hold retention elections for three state supreme court seats. Currently, Democrats have a 5-2 partisan advantage on the court. But because three Democrats are up for reelection, losing just two of these elections would flip the makeup of the court.

🗓️ DATE TO BE ANNOUNCED 🗓️
  • Michigan will hold a special election that will set the balance of power in the state senate, as Democrats currently hold 20 seats and Republicans with 18 seats. If the GOP is able to turn this seat red, it would leave Democratic Lt. Gov. Garlin Gilchrist as the tie-breaking vote.

Fair maps will be on the ballot all year long — and our grassroots movement needs to show our strength early on. Please pitch in now to help elect pro-democracy leaders across the country.

More soon,
