Letter from the Mayor
On Monday, Washington, DC will host the 60th Presidential Inauguration. Every four years our city supports the peaceful transition of power – we are proud of that responsibility, and I am grateful for the many public servants, from DC and across the country, who are working around the clock to ensure a safe and secure event.
Earlier today, the U.S. Secret Service and federal partners confirmed that Monday’s events are being moved indoors due to extreme cold. As more information becomes available about the updated plans, inauguration.dc.gov [ [link removed] ] will get updated throughout the weekend. You can also sign up for updates by texting DCINAUG to 888-777.
Throughout the weekend and into Monday, residents and visitors should be mindful of increased security measures, including road closures, parking restrictions, and transit adjustments. If you are traveling through the city, leave extra time, use public transportation when possible (but also know that some Metro stations will be closed [ [link removed] ] Sunday evening into Tuesday morning), and check the latest road closure and parking restrictions map on inauguration.dc.gov [ [link removed] ] before you head out.

Because it will be so cold on Monday, please dress appropriately if you will be outside. We also have our human services outreach teams in the community, working to keep people safe. Let’s look out for each other, check on seniors and neighbors, call 311 for the shelter hotline, keep your sidewalks clear if it snows, and stay safe.
Sincerely,
Muriel BowserKids
