It's 2025 and things are rolling!
Seven Wyoming State Parks representatives attended years one and two of State Park Leadership School in West Virginia last week. Sinks Canyon Superintendent Jessica Moore, Curt Gowdy Superintendent Adam McKay, and I graduated from this great program. The regents are directors from across the country sharing their combined hundreds of years of service. Emerging leaders from states across the country, identified by their agencies, attend this two year school to learn, connect, and share. I'm grateful to Wyoming State Parks for supporting professional development and glad to represent Wyoming in this nationwide group.

Last month, five Wyoming State Parks staff attended the National Association for Interpretation conference. Superintendent Jessica, District Manager Kyle, and I presented about interpretive signs - what we learned from creating thirty new panels at Sinks and Fort Bridger last year! Special thanks to Ranger Katie for helping when our room was overflowing with attendees.
I was honored to be presented with the Distinguished Front-Line Interpreter Award for an interpreter who has been in the field for at least five years and works directly with the public. This annual award recognizes outstanding achievements in the field of interpretation.
We were joined by three Wyoming Game and Fish staff as well as friends from Tennessee, Washington, and Texas who all came for a dinner to celebrate!
2024 was a fantastic year for interpretation in our district! Were you one of the 13,531 folks who attended an interpretive program with us? Feel free to share that feedback with us and give us ideas for what to offer in 2025 with this form!
From cave tours to women's snowmobiling with the Trails office to Hawk Talks and BioBlitz... it was a full year!
Wyoming Game and Fish Department leads some fantastic summer programming at their beautiful Whiskey Mountain Conservation Camp near Dubois. Camps for kids, the whole family (whatever "family" means to you!), and women are all fantastic - District Manager Kyle and I have helped with several of them!
Applications are now open for Becoming an Outdoors Woman. Many hundred apply and about a hundred are chosen. Their other camps are first come, first served. Above is a picture from my BOW backpacking class last summer - showing different articles of clothing, weights, prices, etc.
It's cave tour season! Sinks Canyon offers tours two Saturdays a month into April. Pair it with a yurt stay and food in Lander and you've got yourself a weekend getaway! https://wyoparks.info/Cavetour will show you tour dates and tickets.

Wyomingites might roll their eyes when they read this, but this time of year is so precious in Wyoming. As much as I love our beautiful summers (and open safe roads), this time of year brings planning, recuperation, and rejuvenation for the coming season. We still have beautiful blue sky days and great winter hobbies, but we also have time to hibernate!
What else am I excited about? Ranger Katie from the Absaroka (NE) District has moved over to be the first person in the new Big Horn District Interpretive Ranger position! She's stationed out of Boysen, which means lots of continued partnerships between our districts! And - we have a fantastic newcomer moving into her old position. That brings our interpretive ranger count up to four in the state. We're excited for our visitors to enjoy all that we have to offer!
In other great news, Laurel Stephens of our Office of Outdoor Recreation has moved over to head up our new Communications and Marketing Office. Laurel is such an asset and will do great things for agency and the state. And then our Wyoming Game and Fish colleague Fran, who has participated in several women's campouts, will be moving to the Outreach Coordinator of OREC!
Both Laurel and Katie were just at State Park Leadership School as well!
