Our nation is currently dealing with the collision of multiple crises. There’s the COVID-19 pandemic and the pandemic of systemic racism against Black people. But Californians are also facing crises in health care, the economy, housing, and criminal justice, all at the same time.
With so much on the line, more than ever it’s important that our voices are heard both in the streets and at the ballot box. And right now, California has an opportunity to ensure it protects our right to vote in the upcoming November election.
We applaud California’s leaders, like Assemblymember Berman and Senator Umberg, who are ensuring that every California voter can vote by mail and in-person safely this November by introducing Assembly Bill 860 and Senate Bill 423.
By protecting the right to vote, Californians will be able to exercise their decision-making power to stop violence against Black, Latino and Indigenous people of color, and invest resources in our families and communities, strengthen our schools and social safety nets, and create public accountability. COVID-19 should not stop us from continuing to ensure democracy works for all people, not just a select few.
Our families and neighborhoods are stronger, safer and healthier when we show up for one another.
Together,
