Regional New Zealand is essential for our Covid-19 recovery and New Zealand First will back our regions every step of the way.

Our provinces are the lifeblood of New Zealand's economy and many of them had been left stagnant under the previous administration.

Throughout our time in Coalition Government, our focus has been to get our regions moving and unlock their economic potential.

The Provincial Growth Fund, has invested in essential infrastructure initiatives that will kick-start our regional economies.

Upgrading vital transport links such as roads, railways, ports and airports will get people and products across the country.

Supporting our primary industries and backing local businesses will create jobs, jobs, and more jobs.

You can rest assured that New Zealand First will continue our drive to grow our regions during our Covid-19 recovery.

Killed in the line of action, Constable Hunt's death demonstrates the risk that police officers face every day.

We are also reminded of the 32 New Zealand Police personnel who fell before him.

That is the sobering glimpse of the dangers our law enforcers face while maintaining the safety of all New Zealanders.

May his death remind us that Police Lives Matter.

Regional Economic Development Minister Shane Jones announced today that $40 million from the Provincial Growth Fund will support up to 1,000 regional apprenticeships.

GoDairy 2020 is supporting jobs for our dairy sector



GoDairy 2020 was launched today by DairyNZ, in partnership with MPI, MSD, and Federated Farmers.

Many people lost their jobs because of COVID-19 and there is an urgent demand for trained workers in the dairy sector.

The programme aims to connect people with jobs in dairy and the broader primary industries as these sectors will be crucial to help New Zealand recover from the effects of COVID-19.

New frontline support to promote mental health and well-being of young Kiwis

New frontline support for high quality teaching that promotes the mental health and wellbeing of children and young people was announced by Associate Minister of Education Tracey Martin.

“We are funding up to 40 Curriculum Leads who will work directly with schools, kura, early learning services and kōhanga reo to support the teaching of mental health and healthy relationships and promote the wellbeing of learners,” she said.

New NZ Post "super depot" to create 350 jobs <[link removed]>

Minister Shane Jones attended the ground-breaking and blessing ceremony for a new ‘super depot’ to be built for NZ Post that will create around 350 jobs during construction.

The construction of the depot is good news for the Wellington regional economy, with the developer and contractor expecting to employ 350 people through 60 sub-contractors,” Minister Jones said.

Federated Farmers' Miles Anderson welcomed the changes to the Arms Legislation pushed for by New Zealand First.

New Zealand First leader Winston Peters is taking credit for the changes. His Party was also successful in gaining a concession for an Independent Arms Authority that would take the responsibility of administering and licensing firearms from the New Zealand Police.

An amendment to the ‘Protection of First Responders Bill’ is being tabled which will see emergency department healthcare workers included in the legislation.

The ‘Protection for First Responders Bill’ will see a mandatory minimum prison sentence of six months for those who intentionally injure our emergency workers.
