This has been a week of revelations about Donald Trump. Among them—a disturbing report revealing one of the most sinister and sophisticated attempts to suppress Black votes since Jim Crow. Let’s be transparent on how voter outreach on traditional campaigns normally works. 

On a typical campaign, voters, regardless of party affiliation, are ranked from 1 to 5 in likelihood of voting for the candidate. A campaign’s mission is simple: convert voters who are 3’s into 4’s, and 4’s into 5’s, and then make sure the 5’s vote on election day. But now, thanks to a huge leak of Trump campaign data, we know that Trump and his lackeys used an alarming tactic to win in 2016. 

They identified 3.5 million Black Americans in their voter database, but instead of finding ways to convince Black America to vote for Donald Trump, they labeled them and other minority groups with “Deterrence,” then they spent Trump’s campaign resources making sure those voters had the most miserable voting experience possible. These Draconian tactics hark back to America’s darkest days, and are the same strategies used by fascist governments and oppressive regimes across the globe.

Friend, how many African American voters have already been labeled as "deterrence" in 2020?

We have to fight back. Make no mistake, election night 2020 is not on November 3rd, it is happening right now. We have to secure our votes by voting as early as possible and creating a plan for our families regarding how we are going to vote in October and November.
