Faith & Freedom 2020 Winner: Jimmy Lai

I have some exciting news to share! During our live-streaming 30th Anniversary Celebration, the Acton Institute will award the Faith & Freedom Award to my good friend Jimmy Lai.

I have had the pleasure of knowing Mr. Lai and his family for more than two decades. His compelling story is told in our documentary film The Call of the Entrepreneur, where he relates his journey from mainland China to Hong Kong as a 12-year old boy, learned English, and built one of the most significant media enterprises in Asia.

This August Jimmy was outrageously arrested by police in Hong Kong under the guise of a recently passed, so-called “national security law.” The newsroom and offices of his publication, Apple Daily, were also raided by police. While he is out on bail, he still faces the near certainty of future imprisonment, as he refuses to abandon his advocacy for faith and freedom.

Mr. Lai is an inspiration to us all and so I hope you will join me in celebrating this man's important work and his amazing spirit on Wednesday, November 18 at 6PM EST.
