John,

Moments ago, I called Congressman David Schweikert to concede this race. From the very beginning, this race was about fighting for the issues that impact Arizona families. It was never about partisanship. It was about rooting out corruption and making the tax code more fair for middle-class Arizona families, small businesses, and retirees. I ran for Congress with one ultimate goal in mind: to ensure that every single American has access to quality, affordable healthcare.

Over the course of this campaign, I had the immense honor and privilege of meeting thousands of voters. Whenever I met a voter for the first time, my first question was always, 'How can our government work better for you? What issues matter to you and your family? What do you need Congress to do more of, do better, for you?'

Among other things, I ran as a physician, as a first-generation immigrant, and as a mom. And I still believe we need more scientists and doctors at the table. The only way we'll get out of this public health crisis and begin to build back our economy is if we listen to experts, follow the facts, and trust the science. We need to fix our broken healthcare system and protect coverage for the one-in-two Americans with a pre-existing condition, including the nearly ten million, and growing, Americans who have been diagnosed with coronavirus. We need to address the climate crisis immediately. Without swift and decisive action driven by data, the future of this planet and our children's lives on it are uncertain.

Even today, after this heartbreaking loss, I stand by my decision to run wholeheartedly. And I'm proud to have joined the countless other women leaders nationwide who stepped up and demanded better. We need more women in positions of power. We need more women in politics. Their empathic voices, their ability to problem-solve, and their diversity of backgrounds and experiences will change this country for the better. Run and run hard -- this country needs you.

To run for Congress, it takes a village. To my family -- thank you for believing in me, loving me, and always being my soft place to fall. Kishore - you're my rock. I couldn't have even pondered embarking on this path without your enthusiastic, steadfast support at my side. Mira, Anji, Jalan -- you are my pride, my joy, and my constant inspiration. When the campaign trail got tough, I remembered that I ran to build a better future for you. My parents came to this country with the dream that one day, with a lot of hard work and determination, my brother and I could do anything we aspired to. Thank you, Ma, for teaching me the power of empathy and public service, and Baba and Tara Aunty, for your endless support and love (and envelope-stuffing!) throughout this journey. To my close friends and family, thank you for always having my back.

To every voter, volunteer, supporter, and staffer -- you give me so much hope for the future of this country. Without you, this race never would have been as competitive as it was and the important issues would have fallen by the wayside. You showed up and brought others with you to usher in the change that this district, this state, and this country so desperately needs. Thank you for your support, your generosity, your time and effort, your vote, and your kindness.

I am deeply proud of my team, this campaign, and the fierceness with which we ran it. We have made an immense impact, make no mistake. I hope each of you continues to use your voice, your passion, and your vote to create 'the change you want to see in the world.' I know I will.
