As an Atlanta City Councilor, I represent the communities that flipped Georgia blue for President-elect Joe Biden and Vice President-elect Kamala Harris. Our neighborhoods, formerly represented in Congress by the late Civil Rights icon John Lewis, did him proud in this election by turning out in historic numbers — but our work isn't done.

If we are going to pass a new John Lewis Voting Rights Act, it starts by winning both U.S. Senate runoffs here on January 5. The Georgia Blue Project is pressing forward with a plan to support the dedicated on-the-ground organizers who were responsible for our historic victory this November with a digital advertising campaign to raise awareness and turn out voters again in just a few weeks.

We started the Georgia Blue Project to impact Georgia politics in the state legislature with the theory that those local-level votes would also help elect Joe Biden and our Democratic U.S. House and Senate candidates. Our ads have reached hundreds of thousands of youth and minority voters in rural areas, some of the hardest places to reach for campaigns in Georgia, and the fruits of our labor have been born in the results we have achieved in the first few months of our operation.

In addition to helping turn Georgia blue for the first presidential election since 1992, we helped defend Lucy McBath's seat while helping flip a seat for Carolyn Bourdeaux. Several of our endorsed candidates for state legislature won critical seats, and now we have the opportunity to send not one, but two U.S. Senators to Congress and give Joe Biden and the Democrats governing control of Washington so we can actually make progress on our key progressive priorities.
