Team,
At a rally to support unelected GOP Senator Kelly Loeffler, now-defeated Doug Collins launched a disrespectful and utterly disgusting attack against Reverend Raphael Warnock.
Collins said, and I quote: "There is no such thing as a pro-choice pastor. What you have is a lie from the bed of Hell. It is time to send it back to Ebenezer Baptist Church."
This is what Republican politics are today, pure hatred and racism directed at whomever stands up against their backward view of America. Not only is this an attack against Reverend Warnock, my friend and a pillar of our community, man of faith, this is an attack launched against the Ebenezer Baptist Church, the spiritual home of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
Loeffler and Collins are wrong about Jesus of Nazareth, who taught us to accept every person as children of God, no matter their background or their past and to care for all. As a pastor myself, I know too well that this was at the core of his teachings. Being a pro-choice pastor means that Reverend Warnock is embodying those teachings by being an example of what religious tolerance looks like in the flesh, not just in dusty words and ancient parables.
Doug Collins and Kelly Loeffler don't understand this because they use religion as a wedge issue to divide. In the name of God, they target their hate and vitriol at whomever dares stand for any understanding that does not comport to their narrow, white, male, heteronormative so-called Christian worldview.
Friend, I understand that there are many Democrats who don't use religion as a basis for morality. Both Reverend Warnock and I believe that Freedom of Religion and from Religion are both fundamental rights.

Kelly Loeffler allowed Doug Collins to spew these vile attacks on the Reverend's character and the character of an entire church community without uttering a word of dissent. She does not even attempt to represent all Georgians, so it's up to us to make sure she doesn't continue to "represent" Georgia in the U.S. Senate.
