AEE reacted to the news that President Biden appointed Richard Glick to be Chairman of the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission. "We are thrilled that President Biden has selected Richard Glick to be Chairman of FERC. Chairman Glick is an advanced energy champion who, in his time at the Commission, has worked tirelessly to put a focus on removing the barriers that prevent advanced energy technologies from competing on a level playing field in wholesale power markets," said Jeff Dennis, managing director and general counsel at AEE.

A new report from the Advanced Energy Buyers Group, a business-led coalition of large energy users, explains why organized competitive wholesale markets operated by Regional Transmission Organizations and Independent System Operators (RTOs/ISOs) are foundational to many of the strategies that large energy buyers rely on to increase their use of advanced energy and meet their sustainability targets. The report also explains why expanding these markets to new regions and improving the design and operation of existing RTOs/ISOs would create more opportunities for corporate advanced energy procurement. “Voluntary advanced energy buyers, including commercial and industrial customers as well as municipalities and institutional buyers like hospitals and universities, have proven to be an important and growing segment of the advanced energy market—and for these buyers, RTO/ISO markets offer more flexible, cost-effective opportunities to make progress toward their ambitious sustainability goals,” said Caitlin Marquis, Director at AEE.

AEE released the following reaction to to the news that the U.S. Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit rejected the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) argument under the Trump administration that the Clean Air Act constrains EPA to only regulate improvements that can be made onsite at coal-fired power plants. The court essentially directed EPA to start over with a new regulatory approach after finding that the Trump EPA's so-called Affordable Clean Energy (ACE) rule failed to provide adequate environmental and public health protections. The remarks come from Jeff Dennis, managing director and general counsel at AEE: "The DC Circuit Court’s ruling rejecting the Trump Administration’s misguided ACE rule clears the way for the incoming Biden Administration to move forward with a plan that reduces carbon emissions and spurs the advanced energy industry forward.” Continue reading the press release here. >

Nevada has taken many important steps toward creating an electrified transportation future. In June, Governor Sisolak announced the Clean Cars Initiative, which is a program designed to bring more low-emission and zero-emission cars and light duty trucks to Nevada dealerships. Then, the Nevada Climate Strategy and Division of Environmental Protection’s 2020 Greenhouse Gas Emissions Inventory report echoed the need for thoughtful state policy to expand consumer choice and build out charging infrastructure in order to transform the transportation sector. In addition to their focus on cars and light trucks, they both recognize that electrifying medium- and heavy-duty vehicles will also be critical to meeting the state’s commitment to a zero-emission future.
