The September Global Climate Strike drew a record setting 7.6 million people into the streets around the world, calling for climate justice. We know it's time to get off fossil fuels, for our children's future, and it's time to call on our leaders to act! Here's how you can get involved locally this month:
On Sept. 20th, Protectors of the Salish Sea and allies began a 46 mile walk from the proposed LNG fracked gas refinery to the Capitol Building in Olympia, a location that is a traditional village site of the Ste,Chass People. Upon arrival, a list of demands was delivered to the office of Gov Jay Inslee, which include Declaring a Climate Emergency in WA state and using executive order to halt all new and expanding fossil fuel projects such as the Tacoma LNG & Kamala Methanol Refinery. Protectors have occupied the capitol steps since, and plan to stay until demands are met so that our children can have a future! Carpool link here!
Note: This is an indigenous led event and we ask that anyone coming to celebrate history with us respects the traditions and protocols of the original peoples of this land. For full list of demands or updates on the occupation please check out independent indigenous media outlet Native Daily Network.
"The climate crisis is right here, right now, in our own backyard. Make no mistake: Here in Washington state, we will continue to lead the way in finding solutions and defeating climate change." - Governor Jay Inslee, September 25th, 2019
