Friend – Too many pregnant workers – especially those in physically demanding jobs, low-wage workers, and women of color – in Iowa and across the country continue to be fired or forced out of their jobs. Congress must address this and pass the Pregnant Workers Fairness Act. The U.S. House has passed this important legislation that, simply put, would require employers to provide pregnant workers with reasonable and temporary accommodations, like extra time off for doctor's appointments or being able to sit on the job, as long as doing so would not be an undue hardship on the business. This is hardly radical stuff and has bipartisan support. All four of Iowa's representatives, both Democrat and Republican, voted yes on the Pregnant Workers Fairness Act. It's an important step in making sure that fewer women have to choose between a healthy pregnancy and a paycheck that supports their families. Learn more. Now the ball is in the U.S. Senate's court. Urge our Iowa Senators to vote yes on S. 1486. Tell Senators Ernst and Grassley to vote yes on the Pregnant Worker Fairness Act. With appreciation, Mark Stringer P.S.
