Parents, don’t miss out! If your children attend public school in Alabama and qualify for free or reduced-price meals, they’re also eligible for $375 each in summer Pandemic Electronic Benefits Transfer (P-EBT) benefits to be issued in September. But you need to act soon to ensure your children receive these benefits. The deadline to apply for free or reduced-price meals to ensure eligible children can qualify for the September issuance of P-EBT is Aug. 31 — less than two weeks away. To apply for free or reduced-price meals, check out your child’s school website for an application, or ask your child’s school for an application form. To learn more about P-EBT, read this explainer on Alabama Arise’s blog. If your eligible children did not receive P-EBT benefits for the 2020-21 school year, if they’ve changed schools or if they’re just starting school, it’s particularly important for you to apply for free or reduced-price meals to make sure they are signed up for summer P-EBT. Besides making sure that your eligible child will get summer P-EBT benefits, getting approved for free or reduced-price meals also will help your child’s school get all its available federal education dollars!
