Friends — three years ago today, Alessandra won an upset primary
against an obstructionist, right-wing incumbent.

Before 2018, the Independent Democratic Caucus — a group of Democrats
allied with Republicans in the State Senate — regularly blocked
legislation and prevented progressives from getting anything done.

Alessandra’s victory marked a major turning point in New York State
politics. We’re so proud of everything that she, and other progressives in
the state legislature, have accomplished, including:

* Codifying legal abortion in New York State
* Passing legislation creating stronger protections for victims of
sexual harassment
* Legalizing marijuana through MRTA (Marijuana Regulation and Taxation
Act)
* Strengthening tenant protections by passing the Housing Security and
Tenant Protection Act
* Securing equality in education funding downstate

On the 3rd anniversary of AB’s primary victory, we’re looking forward to
all the hard-fought victories to come — especially now that we can expect
increased transparency and accountability from the governor’s office.
