The 10 billion tonne plastic pollution bomb

Humans have produced a staggering 10 billion tonnes of plastic – about six billion tonnes of it now waste in landfill sites or polluting the environment. In our new report The Truth Behind Trash: The scale and impact of the international trade in plastic waste, EIA’s Ocean team has analysed available data for the most comprehensive picture yet of the world’s mounting plastic waste trade problem. In addition, illegal trade in plastic waste is estimated to be worth up to €15 billion in the EU alone.

Notorious wildlife trade kingpin is jailed

The kingpin of one of Southern Africa’s most prolific wildlife trafficking syndicates has been sentenced to serve 14 years in prison in Malawi. Chinese national Yunhua Lin was the head of the ‘Lin-Zhang gang’, operating out of Malawi for at least a decade.

Arrested by the junta

We are appalled to learn that respected forests and rights defender, democracy advocate and EIA partner Kyaw Min Htut has been arrested and detained by the military junta in Myanmar. Please take a moment to sign this petition demanding his release.
