As I am writing to you, the Supreme Court is prepared to effectively
overturn Roe v. Wade by upholding Mississippi’s 15 week abortion ban.
Under Roe, abortion can not be restricted prior to 23 weeks.

Extremely restrictive anti-abortion policy is very unpopular among the
American electorate, but the six conservative justices on the Supreme
Court are determined to legislate their own beliefs.

If Roe is overturned, half of U.S. states are likely to ban abortion
entirely. This is infuriating, but it’s not unprecedented — Republican-led
state legislatures have been chipping away at the right to a safe, legal
abortion for decades.

These restrictions hurt everyone, but they’re disproportionately hard on
the financially disadvantaged, people of color, immigrants, individuals
with disabilities, and LGBTQ+ people. Those of us with the ability to help
need to act now, so:

[ [link removed] ]Today, I’m asking you to make a contribution to the National Network of
Abortion Funds to provide financial support to individuals seeking
abortions.

Organizations like the NNAF are doing critically important work, but it’s
also incumbent on our leaders to do something.

Members of Congress can not sit back and watch as the Supreme Court paves
the way for abortion to become illegal. Congress must pass the Women’s
Health Protection Act, which will codify the legal right to an abortion
and protect abortion providers.

I am proud that, here in New York, the state legislature codified the
right to an abortion with the passage of the Reproductive Health Act in
2019.

And recently, I proposed Senate Bill S758, which would give New Yorkers
the option to make a gift to a statewide abortion fund via their tax
forms. This money would cover the costs for procedures, transportation,
and other associated expenses for individuals who are unable to afford
abortions on their own.

As I continue the work to make abortion accessible and affordable here in
New York State, [ [link removed] ]I urge you to make a contribution to the National
Network of Abortion Funds today to provide financial support to
individuals seeking abortions.
