We're continuing to highlight the ways Governor John Bel Edwards has moved Louisiana forward in yet another difficult year despite opposition from partisan extremists and special interests. We at A Stronger Louisiana believe Gov. Edwards has put Louisiana back on the right track. If you agree, please consider making a contribution to support our efforts to keep Louisiana headed in the right direction.
One of Gov. Edwards' most impactful accomplishments this year was working to pass a legislative agenda that will make a positive impact on generations of Louisianans for many years to come. Here are some of Gov. Edwards' 2021 legislative wins:
- HB 409 by Rep. Freeman - Requires certain reporting requirements for sexual assault and sexual harassment by mandatory reporters in higher education.
- HB 379 by Rep. Larvadain - Provides for cause of action and exemplary damages against a perpetrator of sexual harassment and extends liberative prescription to 3 years.
- SB 17 by Sen. Johns - Establishes the Office of Human Trafficking Prevention within the Office of the Governor and places the Louisiana Human Trafficking Prevention Commission and Advisory Board within the Office of Human Trafficking Prevention.
- SB 215 by Sen. Barrow - Requires employers to provide pregnant and postpartum employees with reasonable accommodations in the workplace to facilitate safe and healthy pregnancies and better infant and maternal health outcomes.
- SB 10 by Sen. Fields - Requires each school district to provide full-day kindergarten and requires kindergarten attendance for children at the age of 5.
- HB 446 by Rep. Butler - Establishes the office of the state Americans with Disabilities Act coordinator within the Division of Administration.
- SB 151 by Sen. Barrow - Outlines specific rights afforded to foster youth - including rights to privacy, a safe and supportive environment, access to ongoing care information, and access to support and various resources.
