Hey there --

BIG NEWS: Yesterday, the Select Committee to Investigate the January 6th Attack on the U.S. Capitol subpoenaed Facebook’s parent company, Meta, for failing to adequately respond to document requests.

This comes after months of pressure from thousands of you who have signed on to our petitions (like the one below) and completed hundreds of calls, emails, and tweets to Members of Congress urging them to investigate Facebook.

We must not forget that the Capitol insurrection was built on Facebook. Company executives made the deliberate decision to turn off disinformation safeguards immediately after the election, giving way to the Stop the Steal movement and Capitol insurrection.

We were one of the first organizations to call for Congress to investigate Facebook and compel them to release documents via their subpoena power. Here’s our rally on Capitol Hill earlier this fall:

I’ll be honest: We count on grassroots supporters like you to provide us the funds we need to lobby Congress and demand accountability of Big Tech monopolies. Chip in now to help us hold Facebook’s feet to the fire: [[link removed]]

Facebook is withholding vital information from Congress. We cannot let them off the hook.

Thanks for your support,

Nicole

Forwarded Email from 11/9/21:

Hey {first name or ‘there’} --

Time and time again, we’ve seen Facebook fail to address the rampant disinformation, extremism, discrimination, and hate on their platforms.

Folks always ask us, what can we do about it? Our answer: Congress can and must investigate Facebook.

Congress has the power to compel individuals to testify or produce records through subpoenas. Last week, Congress subpoenaed Big Oil companies for their role in contributing to climate change and spreading climate disinformation online. We’re calling on them to subpoena Facebook next. Here’s why:

We deserve to know the full extent of Facebook’s cover up of internal research on their platforms’ harms to kids.

We deserve to know how Facebook helped facilitate the January 6th Capitol insurrection.

We deserve to know how much COVID-19 misinformation is on Facebook.

We deserve to know how Facebook continues to enable human trafficking.

The list goes on and on...

Congress has the power to compel Facebook executives to testify and turn over data and internal communications. It’s time for them to act. Add your name to our petition calling on Congress to launch a formal investigation into Facebook with subpoena power: [[link removed]]

Thanks for being with us,

Nicole
