At our February 27th General Meeting, East Bay DSA’s membership voted unanimously to endorse a Tax the Rich Oakland ballot measure campaign.



On Saturday, April 2nd, join East Bay DSA and public sector unions as we launch our campaign to tax the richest corporations in Oakland <[link removed]>



The ballot measure, drafted by a coalition including IFPTE Local 21, SEIU 1021, and DSA-endorsed Oakland City Councilmember Carroll Fife, would raise taxes on some of the largest corporations in Oakland, and increase the city’s general funds by about $40 million annually. This is money the city desperately needs–to provide housing to the houseless, increase pay for city workers, and address staffing shortages in many of the city’s crucial service departments.



But the corporations—Blue Cross Blue Shield, Clorox, and the Chamber of Commerce—won’t give up without a fight. They’ve already started spending money on their own ballot measure that will keep their taxes low and the city’s budget starved.



We need to show up strong on April 2nd, to send a clear message—to the corporations that we won’t take no for an answer, and to our union siblings and comrades that we have their backs. Wear red!

There is more than enough wealth in the city of Oakland to provide for its working people—to house people in good and dignified housing, to provide non-police mental health services, and to keep our parks and roads clean and well-maintained.



We have to fight for an Oakland that puts people over profit!
