Named in honor of Arizona's own Gabrielle Giffords, the Rising Star Award celebrates women serving in state or local office who demonstrates the same sort of commitment to community, dedication to women and families, and determination and civility that have been the highlights of former Rep. Gabrielle Giffords’ career -- in and out of office. 

I am lucky enough to not only know Gabrielle Giffords as a community leader, but also as a friend. This throwback photo of Gabby and I was taken back in 2008 at a DNC convention.

I stand on the shoulders of many Arizona women elected before me, and I am humbled by this national recognition.

 

It is a prestigious award, and one that I hope to earn with the support of the grassroots network we've built together. However, voting for the Gabrielle Giffords Rising Star Award ends tomorrow at 5PM EST.
