Happy World Health Day, John. First celebrated in 1948, World Health Day is an annual celebration aimed at bringing attention to global health issues.
We believe an issue that always deserves our attention is women’s health, which continues to be overlooked in both the doctor’s office and on the House and Senate floor. Throughout our history, the government has used its power to control women – particularly women of color – and their bodies.
Here is just a fraction of what that looks like:
→ In the 1950s the federal government ran unethical and unconstitutional drug trials on Puerto Rican women without consent to create the early precursors to birth control that would go on to become so widely used, leaving many of the women unable to have children themselves.
→ In the first year of the global COVID pandemic, deaths among Black pregnant women rose by 14%. In other words, one-third of the pregnant women and new mothers who died in 2020 were Black.
→ Over the last few months, we’ve seen anti-trans legislation pass in state legislatures across the U.S. that criminalize and limit what type of care an individual can receive from their provider, which specifically harms trans women and girls.
→ Republican-led state majorities continue to threaten Roe v. Wade and take away the fundamental right to abortion. 26 states across the nation have introduced new bills that heavily limit or fully ban the right to essential reproductive healthcare.
A Woman’s Place strongly believes that women’s health issues are human rights issues. That’s why we are committed to endorsing candidates ready to fight for women’s health, right now .

We hope you’re with us,
A Woman’s Place
The contemporary political landscape is filled with progressive women who are running for elected office up and down the ballot, who possess a true vision of equality for this country's future. A Woman's Place seeks to support their efforts by providing financial resources to embrace this tongue-in-cheek idea of what a woman's place should be.
We help put women where they belong: positions of political leadership throughout all levels of government.
