Dear John,
Can you take five minutes to protect families from California lawmakers’ ongoing assault on parents’ rights?
Senate Bill 866 ([link removed]) — introduced by California’s most radical anti-family, anti-child legislator, San Francisco’s Scott Wiener (D) — would change California law to allow children 12 years of age or older to “consent” to be vaccinated for COVID-19 without the consent or notification of their parent or guardian.
The bill will be heard by the Senate Judiciary Committee tomorrow, Thursday, May 5th. You can use California Policy Center’s online Take Action tool now to sign our petition opposing SB 866 and to contact your local legislator directly to let them know where you stand on the bill.
SB 866 has nothing to do with children’s safety and everything to do with progressive lawmakers’ campaign to unravel parental rights. The state of California’s own data ([link removed]) continues to show that children under 18 years old make up 0.0% of COVID deaths in California.
Wiener admits he introduced the bill to override parents who do not want their children to receive the COVID vaccine. In a press release ([link removed]) , Senator Wiener stated:
“Giving young people the autonomy to receive life-saving vaccines, regardless of their parents’ beliefs or work schedules, is essential for their physical and mental health.”
“COVID-19 is a deadly virus for the unvaccinated, and it’s unconscionable for teens to be blocked from the vaccine because a parent either refuses or cannot take their child to a vaccination site.”
“So many teens want to be vaccinated so that they can lead a more normal life — participating in sports or band, traveling, going to friends’ homes — but they’re prevented from doing so due to their parents’ political views or inability to find the time.”
SB 866 would apply to any vaccine recommended by the CDC and approved by the FDA, including vaccines that only have Emergency Use Authorization.
Wiener’s bill poses a serious threat to children and families:
* It removes parents from making important, potentially life-altering medical decisions for their children.
* It makes children vulnerable to being peer-pressured into receiving vaccines, including by activist adults.
* It would hide the child’s vaccination status from parents, which could prove deadly to children if they have adverse reactions to the vaccine.
* It puts children at risk who have medical conditions that make them ineligible for the vaccine, but may not understand or share that information on their own.
I hope you will take the time to take action on SB 866 now. It only takes a few minutes, but your voice can make a difference.
