Happy Classified School Employee Week!
This week we are celebrating Classified School Employee Week, recognizing all the support staff and paraprofessionals who help our early childhood centers, schools, and colleges succeed. Classified employees perform essential work and are critical to the success of our schools and colleges. Our students’ educational experiences are enriched by the commitment that these dedicated professionals demonstrate every day.
Thank you again to all the classified staff who have done incredible work during another extremely challenging school year. Together we will continue to organize to ensure every classified worker in our schools has the pay, respect, and resources they deserve.
Governor Newsom proposes record education budget including $200 million funding for part-time faculty healthcare
In his updated budget proposal released last week Governor Newsom included a record amount of funding for K-12 schools and our community colleges.
Following continued organizing by CFT members statewide, Governor Newsom also stood firm on his previous commitment of $200 million in annual funding for part-time community college faculty healthcare.
Now the push is on to make sure the California Legislature supports the funding, and essential program changes necessary to ensure that these funds reach faculty who need it most. Please take a moment to send a letter to legislative leaders today, urging them to support quality, affordable healthcare for part-time community college faculty.
Interested in more details on the budget? Check out this great overview on the CFT website.
Heroic San Francisco teachers rescue elderly residents from apartment fire
A shout out to the two San Francisco teachers who took quick action and rescued several older residents from an apartment fire last week that was taking place across from their school, Rosa Parks Elementary.
According to KCBS, second grade teacher Cecily Ina-Lee and first grade teacher Vincent Reyes were out on the recess yard when they noticed the smoke coming from the apartment building and they jumped into action.
Every day teachers and school workers go above and beyond for our students and our communities, but the bravery and decisiveness of these two educators really stands out!
