** Alcohol Change UK’s Blue Light conference

We’re delighted to announce we’re hosting thefirst national Blue Light conference ([link removed]) , online on 18 October 2022. At the event, we will introduce you to Alcohol Change UK’s Blue Light Project, how it works, and how you can start implementing it in your local area. Our wonderful list of speakers will be sharing expertise and experience about engaging with highly vulnerable, dependent drinkers, and supporting them to turn their lives around.

** Could you take on a summer trek?

Looking for a way to get outside and support our work at the same time? We've teamed up with the Ultra Challenge Series and Discover Adventure to provide our supporters with the opportunity to fundraise while taking in the sights and sounds of the UK countryside or wonders of a trek abroad! We’ve got places for a range of treks and ultra events, so whether you’re an intrepid explorer, determined ultrarunner, or someone who enjoys a countryside ramble, there’s something for everyone.

** The All-Party Parliamentary Group on Alcohol Harm - an update
------------------------------------------------------------

On 26 May, the All-Party Parliamentary Group on Alcohol Harm ([link removed]) held an AGM to vote in a new officer, Derek Thomas MP. Derek Thomas is now a Vice-Chair of the Group, and as a Conservative MP, allows the Group to remain an All-Party one. Other officers come from Labour, Alba Party, and Crossbench Peers. We look forward to an exciting programme of work with the refreshed group.

** Parents “left in the dark” about alcohol and their children
------------------------------------------------------------
Many parents are unaware of official guidance on when their teens should have their first alcoholic drink, according to a new report. The study, for Community Alcohol Partnerships, found that 58% of all adults were unaware of published guidance from the UK’s Chief Medical Officers on when and where children should consume alcohol. The CMO guidance, published in 2009, advises parents that “an alcohol-free childhood is the healthiest and best option” up to the age of 18.

** Implementation of MUP “straightforward” for small retailers
------------------------------------------------------------
The implementation of minimum unit pricing (MUP) in Scotland was straightforward for the small retail sector, according to a new study. The research from Stirling University’s Institute for Social Marketing and Health found that retailers understood what was required, found that implementation was largely straightforward, and took compliance seriously. Few adverse effects were reported, and some felt that MUP had improved their ability to compete with supermarkets.

** Reality TV shows “bombarding children” with alcohol imagery
------------------------------------------------------------
A new study has highlighted how alcohol, tobacco and foods high in fat, sugar or salt (HFSS) content are common in reality TV programmes shown in the UK. The study, published in the Journal of Public Health, found that alcohol content was seen 197.3 million times by children aged under 16 across 20 different reality TV programmes, between August 2019 and 2020.
