Union Kitchen workers win union recognition
Union Kitchen is now unionized. After management delayed for months, all the votes were finally counted yesterday and a majority of employees at five Union Kitchen locations voted to join UFCW Local 400. The union called on owner Cullen Gilchrist to respect the outcome of the election, cease his delay tactics, and sit down to negotiate a union contract. "We would like to thank all of our customers, elected officials, community allies, fellow union members and supporters everywhere who never stopped believing this day would come," [link removed] said Local 400. "We know we can count on you moving forward." The union called on owner Cullen Gilchrist "to respect the outcome of this election, cease his delay tactics, and finally sit down with us to negotiate a union contract." The newly unionized workforce includes approximately 50 employees and coincides with a wave of union organizing occurring across the country, notably at major corporations such as Starbucks and Amazon. In fact, according to the NLRB, [link removed] union elections filings in the first half of fiscal year 2022 are up 57% from the year before.

Towson Apple store workers make history with union vote
A majority of employees at a US Apple store in Towson, Maryland have voted to form the tech giant's first union, in the wake of similar unionization drives at Starbucks and Amazon locations. "We did it Towson! We won our union vote! Thanks to all who worked so hard and all who supported! Now we celebrate... Tomorrow we keep organizing," AppleCORE tweeted. Workers will form their own branch of the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers (IAM) union, once the agency has certified the results.
