Greetings from Ohio,
This is Bria Bennett running for OH HD-64 and Daniel Ortiz running for OH HD-43. We’re reaching out to you together today because early voting has already started here in the buckeye state, so time is of the essence.
Where the federal government has yet to take bold enough action, it’s more important than ever that we have strong state legislatures defending our basic human rights and working to keep us safe.
This year, there is so much on the line — and on the ballot. Among the plethora of crises our country is facing, abortion access and gun violence are currently at top of mind for many Americans. So we want to take a moment to give you a glimpse of how these issues look in our state right now.
Almost exactly one month ago, a brand new gun law went into effect in Ohio that permits concealed carry of weapons — without a license, background check, or training. We’re facing a gun violence epidemic, and now Ohioans must live in fear that anywhere they go, anyone they pass could be carrying a weapon — including those without any qualifications to handle one.
And in the wake of the devastating overturning of Roe v. Wade, Ohio Republicans have just introduced a bill earlier this week that would outlaw ALL abortions with the only exception being when the life of the mother is “endangered”, by their definition of the word.
Ohio and several other states are moving the entire country in the wrong direction. Instead of prioritizing our safety and justice, they are putting people’s livelihoods at risk to fulfill the far-right agenda. We cannot let this continue. We must fight back by using our voices through our elections to demand leaders who will stand up against corporate interests, corruption, and extremism and actually get things done for working families. That’s what we both vow to do if we are elected to the Ohio State House.
