John - I’m reaching out to give you an update on the results from last night’s Primary Election in Alaska.
Following the first-ever open primary in the state, U.S. Senator Lisa Murkowski is poised to finish with the most votes. Lisa beat 17 challengers on the primary ballot, and as a result, she’ll headline the ranked-choice general election this November.
Lisa’s grassroots campaign has been buoyed by support across the state and country. Our volunteers have knocked thousands of doors, made tens of thousands of phone calls – and thanks to supporters like you – we are continuing to raise the resources we need to push Lisa across the finish line.
With the primary behind us, our campaign’s focus remains the same as it has since day one – winning the ranked choice general election in November.
Under Alaska’s new ranked-choice system, Lisa will be able to appeal to – and secure votes from – a broader portion of the Alaska electorate than ever before. Under this system, Lisa’s performance in the general election will be even stronger than it was in last night’s primary election.
What’s next?
While Lisa has the momentum, outside hyper-partisan groups have already started launching their attacks in an attempt to prevent Lisa from winning re-election. Lisa’s success in the primary election will only encourage the opposition’s campaign and allies to deploy even dirtier tactics.
Lisa succeeded in the primary, but the general election has just begun. The stakes for this race couldn’t be higher.
