Dear TrashBlitz Enthusiasts,
We know plastic in the ocean is a global problem. Now we need to get closer to the source. That’s why with you and your support, we launched our first ever TrashBlitz this spring.
TrashBlitz mobilized 25 partner organizations and over 600 Angelenos to collect data across LA. With our brand new web-based app, we collected robust data on waste type, material, and brand. We found that food and beverage packaging dominated, which confirms our findings from our BAN List 2.0 research!
We hand-delivered our data to key California Assembly Members in support of the statewide source reduction bills, AB 1080 and SB 54. We are now working closely with partners here in Los Angeles to change local policies.
With your help, we’re scaling TrashBlitz to three new cities in 2020: Brooklyn, Portland, and Denver.

During our mini TrashBlitz in Ecuador on this summer's expedition, we partnered with Stasher and used their reusable silicone bags to collect plastic data while en route to the Galapagos. Katie Reinman, Stasher’s Brand Director, remembers the experience as “powerful and inspiring." In celebration of our partnership, Stasher will be matching all gifts up to $10,000 this holiday season!
Capturing real time data and stories of the people most impacted by plastic pollution are crucial to impacting global change. Will you help us document and share this critical information?
Donate today and support science to solutions using storytelling.
With gratitude,
Anna Cummins, Co-Founder and Deputy Director
