Ward 3 Update: Boosters and 9/11 Fire Station Visits

Dear Neighbors,

As you may have seen, new bivalent COVID-19 boosters have been approved,
which protect against the more contagious Omicron BA.4 and BA.5 variants.
They will become available across the District tomorrow, and more details
are listed later in this newsletter. If you're eligible, please get boosted
to protect yourself and those around you.

This Sunday, September 11th marks the 21st anniversary of 9/11. I will be
continuing my annual tradition of visiting the fire stations in Ward 3 and
bringing them a small token of my appreciation for all they continue to do
to keep our community safe.

Please feel free to join me at your local fire station. The schedule is as
follows:
* 1:30pm - Engine 29 (4811 MacArthur Boulevard NW)
* 2pm - Engine 20 (4300 Wisconsin Avenue NW)
* 2:30pm - Engine 31 (4930 Connecticut Avenue NW)
* 3pm - Engine 28 (3522 Connecticut Avenue NW)

Regards,

Mary

Updated COVID Boosters

New COVID-19 booster shots were approved last week. These boosters protect
against the more contagious variants that are becoming more and more
prevalent.

COVID-19 bivalent booster vaccines produced by both Pfizer and Moderna are
available:
* The Pfizer bivalent booster is recommended for individuals 12 years of
age or older if it has been at least two months since they have completed
their primary vaccination series or at least two months since they received
a booster dose.
* The Moderna bivalent booster is recommended for individuals 18 years of
age and older if it has been at least two months since they have completed
their primary vaccination series or at least two months since they received
a booster dose.

The boosters, along with vaccines, masks, and tests will be available
starting tomorrow, Wednesday, September 7th, at the eight COVID centers
throughout the District. Ward 3's is located at 5335 Wisconsin Avenue NW,
and its hours are as follows:
* Monday: 10 am - 8 pm
* Tuesday: CLOSED
* Wednesday: 10 am - 8 pm
* Thursday: 11 am - 9 pm
* Friday: 9 am - 7 pm
* Saturday: 10 am - 8 pm
* Sunday: 10 am - 8 pm

You can also receive a booster by visiting a pharmacy, making an
appointment with your healthcare provider, or making an at-home vaccination
appointment by calling 1-855-363-0333.

School Readiness Tours Follow-Ups

At my annual School Readiness Tours in August, my staff and I took
extensive notes on the state of our Ward 3 schools. While the schools are
generally in good condition, there were several work orders that remain to
be completed. We are continuing to follow up with the agencies responsible
and ensure that these issues are taken care of - in particular, those
relating to safety, like door locks and functioning intercoms.

Joint Utility Day

On Thursday, August 26th, my Constituent Services team (comprised of Dee
Smith, Aukima Benjamin, and Amy Sinnenberg) went to the Entertainment &
Sports Arena to attend a Joint Utility Day and gather helpful information
for our Ward 3 residents. Joint Utility Days occurred in past years, but
this is the first in many. The event is put on by the District’s utility
companies: Washington Gas, Pepco, and DC Water. Joint Utility Days are held
to help residents receive answers to questions regarding their utility
services and discuss water and energy-efficient practices. Residents may
also explore payment plans and budget programs, such as deferral options,
budget billing, and automated payments. In addition to the three utility
companies, other District agencies and organizations in attendance were the
Department of Energy & Environment, the Office of the People’s Counsel, the
Public Service Commission of the District of Columbia, the Salvation Army,
Some Center for Employment Training, amongst others. The next Joint Utility
Day will be held in September at Stadium-Armory – we will provide more
details as they become available.

Should you have any questions about Joint Utility Day or the services the
utility companies provide, please do not hesitate to reach out to the
Constituent Services team!

Chevy Chase Day

Chevy Chase Day, hosted by the Chevy Chase Citizens Association, will take
place on Saturday, September 17th, from 1pm-4pm. The festivities will take
place on Connecticut Avenue between the Chevy Chase Library (5625
Connecticut Avenue NW) and the Chevy Chase Community Center (5601
Connecticut Avenue NW).

The attractions include music and dance performances, art by local artists,
face painting, chalk art, balloons twisting, yoga, and more! Chevy Chase
Citizens Association will also be providing free ice cream and mini
cupcakes.

I'm very much looking forward to it, and I hope to see you there!

Save the Date: Art All Night

Art All Night is back! It will take place on two nights—Friday, September
23 and Saturday, September 24. The festival will take place in 20
neighborhoods with different activations on each night, bringing visual and
performing arts, including painting, photography, sculpture, crafts,
fashion, music, literary arts, dance, theater, film, and poetry, to indoor
and outdoor public and private spaces, including local businesses and
restaurants. Four Ward 3 neighborhoods will be participating this year.

* [13]Van Ness Main Street

Saturday, September 24th:
