John, it's no secret that I love the USPS.
I've fought hard to make sure that our Postal Service gets the funding that it needs to thrive. It might not be an issue that makes front page news, but having a mail system is an incredibly important, foundational component of our society.
The USPS quite literally binds us together. It connects us when we are far apart from the people we love; it delivers us the prescription medication we depend on; it makes sure that millions of us can cast our election ballots; and yes, it even enables our online shopping cravings.
So that’s why it hurts so much to watch our Postal Service not be at its best.
You see, during the height of the pandemic – a time when families were counting on the USPS more than ever before – Postmaster General Louis DeJoy intentionally slowed mail delivery. Before the 2020 election, he ordered the removal of HUNDREDS of high-speed mail sorting machines. These decisions are wrong for our USPS and families are facing the consequences.
Now, he's announced plans to cut 50,000 jobs at the USPS!
This announcement couldn't come at a worse time. The midterm elections are less than two months away, and millions of voters are going to be sending in their ballots by mail! I need to show my colleagues in the Senate that Americans won't stand for this. So please, will you respond to my live poll before 11:59 p.m. tonight to make your voice heard for the USPS?
Do you trust Postmaster General Louis DeJoy with our USPS?
Thanks for standing with me on this one.
The fight continues,
Tom
